Art and Arts Week (28/9-2/10/2008) Club

Arts Week 28/9-2/10/09

ARTS WEEK 28th Sept-2nd Oct

There’s a lot going on next week in school all themed around Art and the Arts.  Each day will have a different theme.  There will be a literature day.  One day will be given over to writing poetry.  Another will be when we enjoy a drumming masterclass with Jeff Rich from Status Quo.  There’s Dress to Impress day when the children will be encouraged to dress up as their favourite character.

Why?

Newsletter (issue 4) asked Ms Smith, Nursery class teacher and Arts co-ordinator why the school was holding an Arts week.  “Under the umbrella of Arts we want to introduce the children to different aspects of the arts.  The underlying aim is to engage the children in their learning in fun and practical ways.  We want to help them open their minds to possibilities.  For example, one of the playgrounds will be transformed into one giant colourful picture array by the Big Draw.  Every child will be drawing a picture and effectively creating a huge mosaic.  The end result is bound to be a gem and we’ll be taking pictures for posterity.”

Is there something for everyone?  “Yes, children from each class will be able to take part in something.  I think the highlight will be Jeff Rich, the drummer from Status Quo, coming in to play for the children and to hold some workshops.  I think many of the staff are looking forward to that too: I’m sure there are a few die-hard head bangers amongst us.”
