About Us

Welcome to Blenheim Primary and Nursery, let me tell you why I think selecting Blenheim is the right decision for your child’s education. Here we believe in developing the whole child. Excellent academic achievement in the SATs is achieved through a stimulating and fun approach to the curriculum. All children participate in a unique performing arts programme operated by a specialist consultant. Sporting activity is also a real strength and Blenheim has achieved an ActiveMark for outstanding provision.

Blenheim is well resourced to deliver what its motto promises “challenging ourselves today to succeed tomorrow.” The staff is 100% committed to offering the best opportunity for your child. The school has specialist facilities for delivering ICT and Performing Arts as well as extensive grounds including three playgrounds, two gardens and an adventure trail.

We believe that a happy child makes the best of all opportunities we have to offer. Please visit us to see for yourself.

The Buildings and Grounds

The school was built in the 1960’s and it is set in a semi-rural location between Orpington and Chelsfield. The spacious and well-maintained grounds contain marked playgrounds, large playing fields and an adventure trail.

Inside the school

The classrooms are all clustered around a modern hall. They are light, airy and large and are very well resourced. All are now equipped with interactive whiteboards. Additionally, we have a library, art room, computer suite and performing arts zone.

The People

The school is staffed by experienced and well-trained teachers. To this is added a number of knowledgeable and well-practised support staff.

There is help and support for every child, whatever their need.

The Curriculum – what the children learn

We believe that an early grasp of basic skills in reading, writing and numeracy is important and we urge parents and carers to become involved at every stage of a child’s life.

We encourage children to take pride in their work by aiming to achieve high standards both in content and presentation.

As children progress and the content of their work changes, they are encouraged to become more independent learners.

We believe in developing the whole child including their physical development. We offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities with much emphasis on the performing arts.

Sports

Blenheim Primary achieved an Activemark for the second successive year for its outstanding delivery of organised sporting activity. At various times during the year children can access some of these activities: football, netball, rugby, swimming, athletics, gymnastics, and judo. We believe very firmly that a healthy body is a healthy mind and we support every measure wholeheartedly every measure taken to enhance a child’s physical well-being.

Performing Arts

The last eighteen months have seen the school produce some wonderful musical and dramatic events like “Computers Behaving Badly” and “Christmas Lives!” both especially written for us by our Performing Arts Director. As well, in July 2007, the school put together a performance of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.” All of our children have the opportunity to participate in these events; no-one is excluded.

We run a number of clubs too under this heading including a “Chill Out Zone” where kids can express themselves freely on topics affecting them; percussion group where children from Yr2 upwards can be taught drumming on various percussion instruments; and, Musical Theatre Club where a large number of children meet to hone their skills in preparation for some of the big productions the school presents.
